Thursday Night Throwdown!!

Hey there mountain bikers. Adam here from the Fat Fish Racing team. The bike ride planned for this Thursday is still on and I'll be setting the course tomorrow night. So you will have to wait for exact distances and elevation but I should have it for you before the ride begins on Thursday. The ride will begin with a hill climb up Jackson Canyon, similar to what the ride was a month ago, but it will be a more direct route to the top. From there we are going to try and find a mile or two loop that we will do multiple laps on. Expect the top OPEN category guys to finish in about 50 minutes while the top BEGINNER category guys to also finish in about 50 minutes (made possible because of a shorter distance). During the ride, I will be at the top doing the timing and the finish will be in the exact same spot where we finished the last timed ride.

Once again, there will be some free hot dogs for you after the event and of course it will be FREE to ride as well.

Remember to wear your helmet and I'll see you soon. For directions look at the earlier blog posts for the directions to the Jackson Canyon hill climb.

RSVP please, so we know how many dogs to bring.

Why I love my Kinetic Indoor Trainer

Without a doubt, the number one reason I love my trainer is because I love my wife!

I'm sure all of you can relate. It is a beautiful evening after work, light clouds, no wind and clear forecast. The kind of night perfect for riding up a mountain. It is also the perfect night to surprise your loved one with a picnic in the back yard or a romantic walk by the river.

Having the Kurt Kinetic indoor trainer allows me to spend more time with my wife and still get in a ride before the day is over. Ride when ever you want to and not when the weather allows.

Last night: 40 minutes of light pedaling with 3 sets of 3 intervals mixed in before a 20 minute time trail effort. All of which were on the DVD that came with my Kinetic trainer.

Other reasons to love my indoor trainer.....
Leak free and worry free. I use mine right on the carpet and have the towel only for sweat.

Easy to set up.

Extremely realistic to riding on the road.

Adjustable so that you can fit your 29er mountain bike on it.

I don't like riding in mud and the roads are dangerous out here where I live, so riding indoors on days when the weather is crummy is the way I roll.

The Grinder

Expert men starting line (above) and take off (below).

The trails at Curt Gowdy State Park are completely mind bending. Each rock, each boulder and every rock wall "no joke" breaks you. So I can not imagine any better way to spend two hours on a Saturday afternoon then to smoke your legs on 18 miles of "epic" Curt Gowdy single track.

This years Grinder was a bit different then last year. The expert class in 2009 was less than 20 riders and this year the expert class had over 60. The race started off very fast up a long double track climb before jumping into the single track which made up more than 95% of the race. According to the spectators, most riders would pass the start/finish line saying that they wished it was their last lap. A good friend of mine says, "if you ain't hikin' then you ain't biking", and that was all that was running through my mind on this race. There were so many sections that required a 'hike a bike' that it sometimes felt that you were off the bike as much as you were on. The Gowdy Grinder was the most technical race I have ever rode and one that I'm sure nobody will ever forget.

Besides a few bumps and scraps, all of us Casper riders finished well with our bikes in tact. Thank you to everyone who was there to cheer us on and hand a bottle off after each lap.

Remember, the next Fat Fish ride will be June 3rd. Stay posted as Location has not been picked yet. I have at least 4 different rides that I have set aside for us, so we have plenty of options.

See you at the races,

Adam

CHANGE OF RACE DATE

We are going to make a change to our next race date. Because the Gowdy Grinder is postponed until Saturday, May 22nd the Fat Fish Racing bike ride will be postponed until Thursday, June 3rd. Some of us who are attending the Gowdy Grinder may not want to race two days before, so we are going to push our race back two weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience folks.

Be sure to tell your friends and competitors of the change of date and we'll see you soon.

MAN.... WHO ELSE IS READY FOR SOME NICE WEATHER???

I can't wait for the mountains to be ridable again. I'm already pumped for NATIONALS at Granby, CO in mid July.

Enjoy!

Gowdy Grinder Postponed to May 22nd

The Grinder has been postponed! 10 inches of snow as of this morning and more in the forcast. There is a very slim chance we will have a decent course by Saturday morning, so we are going to shoot for the 22nd instead. Please forward this to anyone you know who planned to attend.

Hey friends. Well, it has been decided. The Fish are ready to host another ride for y'all! May 20th will be our next Thursday ride. That is coming up just 5 days after the Gowdy Grinder. Location will be determined soon, but we are going to wait on the weather before it is posted. So help us spread the word and check back in with us in about a week to find out where the race will be.

See you at the Gowdy Grinder. Seriously, the Grinder is awesome and in my opinion, the course that they put together last year was better then the 30 miles that I just rode in Fuita or the 30 miles that I just rode in Lakewood, CO. Hope to see you there!

Below: I was just in Lakewood two days ago racing the Battle of the Bear. 30 miles of really fun and easy single-track. My wife and I highly suggest this park to anyone who travels down to Denver. 18 bucks for a campsite and many miles of dirt and paved trail to ride. I sure am glad I have put in the miles doing those hill climbs. The climbs is where I absolutely smoked people. Fun stuff.

Enjoy!

Bridal Trail Update and Gowdy Grinder

So yesterday before the snow came in I rode the Bridal Trail, it is pretty good still a lot of snow drifts in the corners but most of it was ridable. I think in a few weeks it should be really good. Please stay on the main trail and be aware of hikers

Also plan on going to the Gowdy Grinder on May 15th http://laramiemtbseries.com/grinder.html
