90+

90+ racers came to  battle the Bessemer Mountain Hill Climb!  That is amazing for a hill climb.  Last year there were just 3 beginners while we had over 25 tonight.  You all are GREAT and thank you so much for the kind words and help with clean up and your positivity on such a challenging course.

The weather sure did turn out to be perfect for us.  We had gusts of wind that reminded us of the first series race.  But by the time we said GO, the wind had disappeared and the cloud cover made the temps about perfect for a summer race.

First off was the beginner category where the two leading racers battled back and forth until the last 1/4 mile.  Those two raced with the Fish for their first time and found out that they might need to bump up to the B category :)  Way to go you guys!!  A big congrats to all the C riders for finishing the race and having fun.

The A and B racers were out for blood from the get-go.  Adrian G. lead for most of the race pulling a group of 3 other riders up the long gravel road to the base of the mountain.  Ben and Bryce and Matt kept on the gas all the way to the top which kept Adrian pedaling as hard as he could.  Seconds after Adrian passed the finish line, Ben passed Bryce and took second place by just 2 seconds.  A few seconds after Bryce was Matt Langley.  Erik A. took the win by a big margin in the B category showing that it doesn't take a ton of training to be a hammerhead.  It just takes a well maintained bike, and the competitive bug that makes you want to push harder all the time.

The women were out in swarms tonight too!!  Christy Olsen took the win in the women's A category with Ashley Bowman in Second.  The big battle at the finish was between Ashley and the B category winner, Melissa.  These two went back and forth the last 100 yards to the finish with Ashley inching by in the sprint finish by just just a half a wheel.  In the C category, the top 4 women all finished really close.  It was a great race to watch!!

Thanks to our sponsors who donated all the great swagg tonight and food.  We hope you all had fun!!
