Setting Limits

Just got done with a killer workout tonight with the team. Tonight there was a time goal we set(limit). On my way home, I thought about how spent I was and how bad I'm probably going to hurt tomorrow. I thought of a video I saw some while back and it made me wonder how much longer I could have gone. As we prepare for the upcoming season and we all set our sights on particular races and goals and things we want to get done on a bike, my hope is that we are able to give everything we have, and accomplish much this summer. Lets safely push limits and not set them. Hopefully the video isn't too cheesy, but it drives home the point.

As I sit here on the computer looking at all the amazing racing options of 2012, I have Race Across The Sky playing in the background on the TV. The Leadville 100 looks like it would be one of those races to have on the bucket list.

Another one of the races to have your list...... 24 Hours of E-Rock!

The Fish will have two more teams going in 2012. I heard that some of the Casper Mountain Racers, downhill ski team, were thinking about making an 8 person team?!! That would be awesome to have them join us. We would love to have more of these Wyoming tents down there kicking some CO butt!

Keith warming up before race start. The unique thing about this 24 hour race is that it starts at 6pm on Friday. So you have Sunday to recover before you go back to work.... if you need it :)

We heard that it was really important to be at the start early. That was very true. Chris got there 20 minutes early and was up in the front. Keith, although having really fast lap times later in the race, got to the start with 5 minutes to spare. This lead to a pretty slow first lap because he was stuck behind racers on the trail. Next year, you'll see multiple Fish on the starting line!

The race started with about a 50 yard run with the bike before you could mount up and roll. Notice the guy with a Cross bike behind Chris. This course has little to no technical riding, so strong legs and little brains mean fast laps.

No night shots...... We did our best to rest. It got cold, sharing tents was not a good idea, you were constantly worried about missing your turn to ride, you could only get about an hour of sleep before getting up and preparing for your next lap, and some people snore. It was not a restful night.

Chris went out for the last "safety" lap for the team. We were certain that we were in the lead, but one extra lap at the end sealed the deal so that no team could sneak up on us.

2012 is here and so far we've stuck to our resolutions :) Eat better, ride every Saturday no matter what the weather is, training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, stretch more, build the core.... etc... That last one is so important! Building your core will help with back pain, stability, AND your chances with the ladies ;)

New for 2012, the Fat Fish have been sponsored by a local gym that just rocks. It is a cross fit gym called Mountain Fit http://www.ascentcrossfit.com/. This place is a bare bones style gym geared towards getting you FIT! You won't find a home decorating show to watch while you lallygag around on the elliptical. What you'll get here at Mountain Fit is professional trainers that want to see you get stronger. It is just a perfect facility for us. Leif is kicking our butts with some intense workouts and each one is getting harder and harder. The Fish are training for races all over the country in 2012. Many of us have our eye on the Laramie Enduro, Pierre's Hole, Breckenridge 100, The Rocky Mountain Endurance Series, and Nationals. The Black Hills Fat Tire Festival sounds fun to and is on Memorial weekend. This race is fun, relaxed and cool, so it would make a great race for those a little intimidated by the huge, and way to serious, races of CO.

We all hope that you are having a nice Winter and getting to spend some time in the gym or on the bike. We are so excited to host another Free race series again! Hope you are too. The next full moon night ride is on.... well, the next full moon (look at a calendar).

One last thing. This next Saturday we are going to wrap up the search to find sponsors who want to be on the team jersey. Bark At The Moon!!!

Happy New Year!!! Lets get out for a ride tonight. The first "Bark at the moon ride" is tonight. These rides will be every full moon in 2012. Some of the rides will be fast, slow, fun, painful and if your like me, scary because I know that there is a mountain lion behind every corner!!

Tonights ride will be a fun 45 minute ride with a couple hill climbs at the end. Hitting the trails at 8pm at the Mike Lansing Field parking lot.

Goals and 2012 list of events

Two thousand eleven is about over and with the new year comes a new chance to make this year the best ever! For many of us, the local races are challenging and fun enough that you may not be interested in looking into out of state events. For the rest of us, the Fat Fish Racing events are a boost of fitness, and technical skill that we can take to CO, ID, and SD to whoop up on our competition. No matter which way you like to ride, goals are great to make so that we can keep ourselves motivated during the off-season. The summer of 2012 is going to rock here in Casper with tons of cycling events including the Fat Fish Racing mountain bike and cyclocross series'. The 12-24 club race on Casper Mountain is set for June 24th. Some say there may be a road race or two in Casper too :) I hope so!! Last year in March, we did a 100 mile road bike ride to Midwest and back, so everyone is invited to join the Fish for that again. And the 1st ever Fat Fish Racing training camp is something we are toying with for early May. A true Fat Fish Racing training camp would include big miles in the morning, then fishing on the river, then eating some fish for late lunch. Relax by a fire and talk about how sore our legs are, followed by a couple hour ride at night which would include hill intervals :) have a beer, sleep, wake up and repeat!! Sound like something you'd be interested in?

Well, back to goals.... By the time January ends, you should have a list of cycling goals. These goals must be WRITTEN DOWN. Don't just think of them and say you'll remember. Write them down and put them where you can see it. Tape it to your bike, on your poster of Lance Armstrong, the inside of you helmet. Seeing and knowing these goals will help to make every rep in the gym, mile on the bike, minute doing lame Yoga easier because you are working towards something.

When you have a free couple hours, check out all these links that I have posted below. They are just a few of the races within 8 or so hours from Casper that you'll see a Fat Fish at. Most of the team has already had our goals in mind for months now. Heck, I'm still working on my #1 goal that I set 5 years ago. But with each year and every race, I set new goals. Anyway, I hope that looking at these events will give you inspiration to set some goals for yourself. Enjoy and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

This is about the start of a WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL (jr high and/or sr high) MOUNTAIN BIKE LEAGUE!!! Its been in the works for a couple years in Laramie and the ladies and gentlemen down there want to introduce it to the rest of the state. Why not, there are tons of kids that ride bikes and plenty of others who may be interested in the LIFE-LONG sport of mountain biking.

This post is to get a list of interested adults and youth who want to know more about the league. Whether you want to be a head coach, assistant coach, ride leader, race volunteer, youth racer, adult of a youth racer, or just want to know more about it, please email fatfishracing.gmail.com so we can get you added to a list. You don't have to be from Casper either. As of right now, Laramie has a team and Cheyenne has a team. I'm confident that Casper has the youth interested in joining. Lander, Green River, Sheridan, Gillette and Jackson are others that we know have the youth that ride but will they want to join a league. Well, email the Fish and lets talk about it :)

We are thinking that at least the first year of the WY league will be independent from any other high school leagues from other states. This will help cut the costs of racing for the kids. If we are independent, we can include younger youth as well. Maybe 6th/7th and up?? It's all about the kids!

Big Thank You and a Video To Boot

Friday night the snow started to fly and come Saturday morning the plows were out in full force.(Check out the video below to see what the plows did for the Fat Fish in Mike Sedar park!) Saturday brought an end to the FishstiCX Series. We had snow and cold to kick off a classic cyclocross race. The weather couldn't have been more perfect.(No wind- gotta take advantage of those days.) The turnout was great and I think everyone had a ton of fun!! We had a blast putting it on. Riders ranged from veteran cyclcross racers to beginners out for their first time. There were a lot of excuses that could have been made to stay home and hang out in the pajamas or go out and do some of the other fun activities going on around town. We're happy that those who came and rode chose to do so. The turnout of people who just came to watch was great also. We even had sponsors show up to watch and see how things were, and what these races are all about. Everyone is welcome back anytime. Results will be up in the future so check back to see how you or your friends faired out in the snow.
We really appreciate all of the participation we have had throughout the year! It's been fun to see and help all of the beginners and people new to the sport smiling and having a good time at each of the races. It's been rewarding to put on good races for those who want to take it to the next level and be a little competitive and even better to see everyone still have fun and show good sportsmanship at each of the events. We were able to give away great prizes and have the series made possible only through great sponsors! To them and each of you we say THANK YOU!!!!. Please continue to support these fine sponsors and visit their business this holiday season. The year has been great for us and we hope the next is even better. May you have a very Merry Christmas.

The video is of the sport/recreational race. It would have been really easy for a few of us Fat Fish to get together and do a crazy winter ride. These racers and riders come and give it their all every race and are another good reason to put these races on. They are some of the "heroes" that make the series successful.Enjoy.

FishstiCX Finale- Lets talk strategy!!

Hey Everyone,

Hope you're all planning on being there Saturday for the Final cyclocross event. The course's pre-ride results are in. Here's a little of what your up against:

Distance: 1.1 Mile per lap

Time: Your biggest fans hanging at the start should be seeing you every 6-7 minutes.

Obstacles: Expect all the normal barriers, the flyover, the "hill"er coaster, and a concrete set of stairs

Course Condition: Well......Some of this is yet to be determined, we'll see what mother nature has in store. This course is true cyclocross fashion with a little pavement, dirt trail, grass, and sand.


Add a little extra air in the tires for less rolling resistance through the grass, or deflate for traction in the sand. These strategies are up to you. The strategy we would like you to use is to tell your family, friends and anyone who might be interested to come and ride/race. Dig out the big coats for those spectators. Its supposed to be a little cold and similar to the fairgrounds race this will also be very spectator friendly. The first two races have been a blast to put on for you and we are pleased with the participation we have been getting. Lets keep it up and see all of you there on Sat.

SOUPer Cross Race Results

Below are the results from the SOUPer Cross race along with the overall standings in the post's below. As you can see from the overall standing, we have some tie's!!! That will make the season finale at Mike Sedar Park that much more fun to race and watch. It will be a true Cross Clash!!

Below is one picture from the Kids' race. Nobody was injured during this race :) All the kids rode as hard as they could with Mason taking the win, but all the kids giving it their all. Lots of spectators and each youth had a spotter the whole race. Expect that again if your child chooses to race on Dec 3rd at Mike Sedar Park. Enjoy!

SOUPer X Recap

What a day! If you ask anyone who was there to tell you about the day, I'm sure the first thing they would mention is the wind. A steady 30 mile an hour wind with gust up over 40mph. Roads closed, travel advisories and storm clouds lurking overhead all day long left us wondering what the next hour would bring. Turns out, that with each hour passed, just brought in more racers and more smiles.
Every single category today ended up having a very exciting battle between the racers!! Starting at 10am was the, new to Fat Fish Racing, SPORT Category. Now this category will stay with FFR from here on out and is kind of an "in between" category to our A and B categories that we had in the mountain bike series. So the top half of the racers in the B category will feel right at home in this new Cat. "Cat" is short for category ;).
ok, back to the sport race.......
9 racers came out to compete at 10 am and we knew it was going to be a close one. Ethan, Bruce, Jack and Brian were the returning CX racers from the EKW CX race.... A race just wouldn't be a Fat Fish Race without starting 10 minutes late, mainly due to Bruce's broken seat post which decided to literally crumble as he rolled up to the starting line. After some fiddling around he just gave us the go ahead and start without him. So we did.
Ethan took the lead immediately with Mason, Chris, and Roy and Jack right on his wheel. The whole first lap was tight like this until Ethan's fitness gapped the rest of the group. Chris soon gained a few bike lengths on Mason and the two of them had about 15 seconds on Roy. Roy kept it very close, but the battle between Chris and Mason kept their pace fast!! This fast pace gapped Roy about half way through the race. From then on, Roy stayed very close, but the pair ahead of him gained about 10 seconds each lap. With 10 minutes to go Mason attacked in the tree section and flew over some barriers to get a gap on Chris. He held that gap through the Spiral of Doom and over the Flyover. With two laps to go, Mason had an 8 second gap on Chris and was looking fast and happy as he hammered by the spectators. The gang of spectators continued their cheering and lost focus on the top 3 guys for a bit while Bruce and Roy, the two bike shop owners in town, rode the Flyover. Then we cheered on Jack, Amy, Brian, Chloe and Jeremy as they rode over and around the Flyover. Suddenly we look over to see the front guys and Mason is no where to be seen. Ethan is way out front, Chris is in second, Roy looks to be in third and now Mason is very rapidly pedaling but moving very slow. We give Ethan the "one to go one to go one to go one to go". Chris is now in second with Roy following about 35 seconds later. Mason spins by after that in his easiest gear. He says that his derailleur broke and he is stuck in that gear (which is way to slow to keep up his second place). Well, that order stuck through the final lap as Ethan, then Chris, and Roy pedaled through the finish line. Amy won the women's category with Chloe placing second. It was blast to watch. Mason simply said about his mechanical, "thats racing"!

You never know what can happen and thats why you should never let off the gas. Keep spinnin' those pedals no matter what and maybe luck will be on your side. Great race guys and thanks for the show.

I'd love to keep writing, but i'm totally exhausted from the day in the wind and racing. Soon, we will have a race recap from the other categories.

The race is ON!! The schedule of Saturday's events are located below in a past Post. So refer to that if you are looking for times. Please feel free to email me at fatfishracing@gmail.com if you have any questions about tomorrows race. The course is already completely set up so we won't need any help with that. We appreciate all the support from you area racers who asked if they could help. After the day's last race, we would love your help taking down the course. So if you are still around, you can lend a hand with that :)

below are two pictures of the course. The Flyover is a blast and will be used for all but the kids' race. The Recreational category can choose to ride it, or bypass it. Your call. Although the Rec category is just for fun, we are expecting some kids who want to compete in that category. So there WILL be awards for the top 3 riders in the Recreational category. While we're on that subject.....

The Fat Fish are so excited to host this upcoming CYCLOCROSS race. Saturday will be a beautiful day to ride and race. The day starts with the bike/ski swap at the Hall of Champions building at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds. Just drive into the fairgrounds and you can't miss it. There will be signs :)

The course is going to be fun. We will have lots of turns and obstacles for all categories. The flyover is only going to be used for the Sport and the Comp categories. The Kids and Recreational categories will do the same course, but bypass the flyover. If you don't know what a flyover is, youtube "cyclocross flyover" and I'm sure some video's will show up.

Hosting this race at the Fairgrounds during the ski/bike swap is a huge opportunity for cycling in Casper. We hope that you can come and join us to show everyone how amazing this sport is and how Casper is a great place to ride a bike.

Bring all the noise making tools you have. The louder the better!!!

Bike/Ski swap and SOUPer Cross Race

Thursday, NOVEMBER 10th. Items that you would like to be sold should be brought to the "Hall of Champions" building at the fairgrounds up to 9pm that night.

Friday, NOVEMBER 11th. Bike and ski swap open from 7am to 9pm. You can still bring in items to be sold at anytime during the swap.

Saturday, NOVEMBER 12^th

9am: Bike and Ski Swap is open to the public and CX course open to pre-ride

10am: Start of the Sport Category Race. Men and Women race together but are in separate categories. Awards follow immediately after final finisher.

11am: Course open to ride.

12: Kids Race! Two categories; 6 and under or 7-10year olds. Awards follow race. Prizes for top racers in each category.

After the Kids Race we will start serving free soups. We have a variety of Meatball, Chicken noodle, corn chowder, wild rice, and more. Bring a soup, a pan of bars, juice or just enjoy the food on us!

1pm: Recreational Category start. All kids over 10 years old are encouraged to race in this category. Don’t feel like a racer? That’s why this is called Recreational.

3pm: Competitive Category start. This is a fast one folks! You won’t want to miss this. Awards to follow.

6pm: Bike and Ski Swap closes.

Sunday NOVEMBER 13th, pick up all unsold items from the swap. 9am-1pm

Boulder Cup CX Race

This past weekend was spent the best way the Fat Fish know how, on two wheels. Emil, Neil and Adam were down in Boulder Colorado racing their bikes in one of the most competitive CX race around. Neil and Emil competed on both Saturday and Sunday in the Cat 4 35+ category with 88 competitors on Saturday and 77 on Sunday. Adam raced on just Sunday in the Single Speed category with 34 riders. The weather was beautiful and even though we didn't win any medals, there was a ton of free stuff from vendors that we got to try :) I think my brother, who was spectating, had about a years supply of Chamois Butter in single serving packets stuffed into his pockets. Everyone was a winner! hahaha Enjoy!

"SOUPer" Cross at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds

Everything is in order for the next great Cyclocross race! We are calling it SOUPer Cross as everyone is welcome to bring a big crock pot of whatever soup they wish to eat. The Fish will have an assortment of soups, but you are encouraged to bring a bowl and spoon. If you would like to share your best soup with the rest of the racers, please bring your crock and we can plug it in at the facility.

The bike race will literally take place just feet from the Ski and Bike Swap. Come early for the swap to check out quality used bikes and stay to race! As always, the Fat Fish Races are free to everyone. We have been working on some new obstacles to put in this race and a sweet Fat Fish Racing podium just needs another coat of paint before it is done.

Awards will be given out to the top three riders in the Comp, Sport and Kids categories.

This is a great opportunity for hundreds of people who have never heard of the free race series to see us in action. Please help us promote the sport and show the community how much fun it is. Don't forget your noise makers. Does anyone have a fog horn to start the races? :)

Volunteers Needed at Special Olympics Fall Tournament

Next Friday at 3 Crowns Golf Course there will be the Fall Tournament for the Special Olympics. There is a cycling portion to the tournament and the hosts could really use some help with making it run as smooth as possible. Want to help with timing? Want to post on a corner and cheer riders on while you point in the direction they need to go?? Then there is a job for you :)

Emil Gercke, just 10 seconds back. Him and I battled back and forth the entire race. A last lap attack in a windy section gave me a 3 second gap into the single-track. The single-track was where I had an advantage being that I was on a mountain bike. I gained another 2 seconds on Emil there before we got back out to some longer open sections where Emil had been gaining on me each of the previous laps. Now that it was the last lap I totally emptied my tank to try and hold off Emil.

They both put it all out there with Paul winning the sprint by just a half a wheel. Great finish guys!

Race Recap

Fat Fish Racing hosted the first of its three race Cyclocross series this Saturday at Edness Kimbal Wilkins State park in Casper. The weather cooperated fully, turning rainy and cold the night before and raining hard into the morning. By the time the races started, the rain had eased to an intermittent drizzle and temps settled into the 40’s.

The Recreational and Sport classes started first, combining classes with the Recreational riders bypassing the vicious sand pit on the first lap. Recreational riders completed 1 ½ laps while the Sport Class suffered through a full four laps of racing.

The course itself offered a mix of sand, single-track, sidewalk, open field, and a nasty off camber grass section that was delightfully slickened by the rain. There were also two sets of double barriers to test the legs.

By the time the two categories had finished, the Competitive group was warmed up and ready to duel. The first two laps were brutally fast, but after settling into a rhythm, the leaders quickened the blistering pace by several seconds each lap. Adam and Emil lead Leif and Paul over the final laps, with Adam dancing over the sand to open an insurmountable gap the last lap, allowing him to coast to a 10 second victory over Emil, followed by a sprint for third place between Paul (of Team Tumbleweeds from Gillette) and Leif. Paul just edged Leif by less than a foot in the tough sprint over strength sucking grass. The rest of the field came in single file after giving everything to the course.

There's no crying in Cyclocross!!

In Cross there are no cancellations, no postponements, and no delays. In Cross there is only mud, sweat and cheers!!! So bring your jacket to the race on Saturday because it's going to happen. A few prizes will be awarded from the day and the top 3, B category racers from the mountain bike series will receive their award. This is going to be fun! Just dress accordingly.

EKW Cyclocross Race

We are all set and ready to go for next week's CX race. The course will be set up on Friday, so feel free to bike on down to EKW for a fun evening or night ride. If cyclocross is still foreign to you, check out some Youtube video's and come early on Saturday. The recreational category will start at 9:30am no matter what the weather is like. If you get there early, any one of the Fat Fish would be happy to show you the best and safest way to dismount and remount on your bike at high speeds. This course will have a couple barriers as well as all the terrain that makes a Cross race sweet. Look at the map below and these pictures of the great EKW park. We will start in the grass at the green circle and go in the direction of the arrows. Park where ever you like, but the Mountain View Pavilion is going to be our base for the day. Cost is 4 dollars to get into the park for residents. The race is free and prizes will follow the completion of all the races and after all the course is picked up. If everyone helps pick up tape and flags and arrows, we aught to be finished in about 10 minutes.

CX vs XC

Last weekend was amazing! Cross Country (XC) race on Saturday at Bates followed by the Cyclo-Cross (CX) race on Sunday in Cheyenne. Check out the pictures below to figure out which one you think looks the best. I loved them both, but now that I did my first ever CX race.... I got the cyclocross bug.

Cheyenne has two more races in their series. So for the next two Sunday's, get down that way for some serious cowbell ringing, elbow rubbing, hurdle jumping action. Go visit those relatives you've been avoiding, take the wife down to Fort Collins for some shopping or tour the beautiful botanical gardens of Cheyenne. Then while you are down there, get on your bike for an hour and rip it up with the great guys down there at their series race. IT IS WORTH THE DRIVE!

Bates Epic

Nothing beats a long bike ride.... Other than a long bike ride with your friends! We are so excited to ride again this Saturday at Bates Creek with all of you. The weather could get a little wet, so please be prepared. A light jacket inside your hydration pack or very small backpack would be a smart idea. Some other items to put in your pack might be an extra tube, energy bars/candy bars, multi tool and a picture of your loved ones should you get so lost we never find you.

The drive from Casper will take about 45 minutes, so please allow enough time to get there and start on time. The directions are in the post below.

The End of the year Epic

We have an exciting and fast course set up with details of the trail below. We are going to have some baked goods and tons of water for everyone, but any food or beverages that you would like to share would be fantastic! There are going to be TWO racing options for you depending on how epic you want to take it. One 13.2 mile lap for the short course and Two 13.2 mile laps for the long course.

You can do this!!!! This race will be the final cross country challenge of the year and should be easy after a great summer of riding.

How to get to Bates:

From Casper follow Wyoming Highway 220 west approximately 18 miles. Turn left (south) onto Highway 487. Continue Approximately 20 miles & turn left (east) on Bates Creek stock trail road (county road 403). Drive up dirt road 2.2 miles looking for a cattle loading dock this will be the parking area, start & finish. Free camping is allowed and a few of us will be there Friday night in case you want to join us.

Trail break down from beginning of CR 403

2.2 is parking, start/finish

2.5 pass by stock pond on right

2.8 ride to top of hill

2.9 double-track goes right, stay on main road

3.4 at bottom of hill

3.8 top of hill

4.4 come to fork in road. Turn left (north) on double-track. Go through gate just off the main road

4.5 go through gate

4.6 faint double-track goes left. Stay on main dbl-tk

4.9 begin uphill

5.3 at ridge top. Good view of Gates drainage

5.7 Trail forks. Go right. Look for old windmill off to the right about 200 yards

6.3 go through gate

6.6 trail forks, stay right

7.3 go through gate

8.1 come to saddle on ridge

8.7 pass by stock pond. Trail goes left around pond

8.9 top of saddle, with water tank

9.0 go through gate

9.2 back on county road

11.2 back at fork (4.4 mile) continue down road to start

Race TONIGHT!!!

One last thing before I head up the mountain to set the course with Leif........ Tonight will be the last time that we will ASK for donations to Joshua's Storehouse. The Fish will gladly take any donation to them at any time of the year. But, this being the last series race will make this the last time that we ask for a dollar. So please, grab that dollar sitting on your dresser, grab the refried beans that have been in your cupboard for 5 months now, or anything else you would like to donate (Jay say's they are pretty short on volunteers down there ;).

Monday Series Finale

I can't wait for Monday to be here and get the Series Finale under way. The 2.2 mile loop is super fast with lots of opportunity for passing. This is a course that is great for spectators too! So if you don't want to race, bring your bike and ride around to different viewing spots. As always, there will be some food for everyone after the ride and some drinks to wash it down. Free prizes will be given away and awards to the top three in each category will be given.

Here are the things to know:

Who: The Fat Fish Racing Series Finale is open to all types of riders. As long as you have at least one wheel, you can compete in the ride.

What: A mountain bike race! A 2.2 mile loop that the A category will race 3 times and the B and W category will do 2 times. There are hills, loose rocky road and tight single-track. Another good name for this course would be the "equalizer" because it doesn't favor anyone. The climber has just as much chance of winning as does the technical rider

When: This Monday night at 6:30pm. Sept 12th

Where: Meet at the lodge parking lot on Casper Mountain. If you don't know this, just google the Casper Mountain Nordic Center and you'll find it. We have the parking lot available for us that night only. The lodge will be closed, so bathrooms at skunk hollow are recommended for use.

Why: Because it's the last series race of the season! Because it's free. Because mountain biking is the most fun way to exercise on the planet. Because the air is cool and a beer always tastes better after a good workout! Because we all want to know who is going to win the A, B and Women's races (man they are close). AND because YOU CAN!

Glendo Trail Building THIS SATURDAY!!!!

All volunteers,

Just a friendly reminder that our two final trail building volunteer days is approaching

rapidly. As always,

we love to get together with individuals while at the same time accomplishing some

well needed goals.

The Glendo volunteer day will be held the week before Gowdy and is scheduled

for September 10th. This will be all day trail building with a caviot. During this volunteer day, we

would like present an overview on trail development since the fall of 2009 when construction began

and future trail goals for Glendo State Park. We will meet at Two Moon campground group shelter

at 9am and work/talk till appox. 3 or 4pm. We encourage you to come up and stay the night either

Friday or Saturday nights. After the trail building, which will consist of relative flat trail building through

Two Moon Campground, we will ride or hike the trails. While we are continuing to secure a lunch

sponsor, lunch will be provided. Meet at Two moon group shelter at 9am.

An extremely important component to hosting a good volunteer day is knowing how many volunteers

to feed. Please let me know in 5 days in advance if you plan on coming out to either Gowdy or Glendo.

As always, we continue to thank each person who has dedicated their free time to help us

accomplish Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails goals. Your help provides park

visitors with recreational opportunities that leads to enhanced quality of life and healthy life

style choices.

Updated Series Standings

Wheeewweeeeeeeeeeeeee Check out these standings!!!! This last race of the season is going to be AWESOME!!!! The top racers in each category are going to be gunning for the top spot in an epic season finally. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. The course is already planned and in my opinion, the ultimate course that showcases all parts of Cross Country Mountain Biking!! Until I ride up there with someone who has a working GPS (I hate my Garmin right now) I can only tell you what to expect...... At my fastest pace, I completed a lap in 12 minutes. The loop starts at the lodge and crosses the gravel road where we fly up a two track hill for about a 3 to 4 minute climb. This is where the guys who are still in shape will need to gap their closest competitors. We will then roll through about 100 yards of rocky two track and take a hard left into the single track. Now we will ride through single track for the next 6 to 8 minutes. The remaining few minutes of the course is gravel road and wide ski trail back to the lodge. The A class will go out for two more laps while the B riders and Women's riders will ride for a total of 2 laps. All beginner riders and casual riders who are not concerned with their times are encouraged to compete two laps, but one lap followed with some cold drinks and hot eats is fine too :)

The Muddy Mountain Monday Ride

Beautiful weather, 70+ riders, free food, a little blood and a lot of laughs...... What more could you ask for. It has been our pleasure to host these free rides for the community. We have been so happy to see the smiles and shake the hands of over 160 different riders this year who have taken part of the Fat Fish Race Series. The Biathlon in this next Monday! That is going to be a blast. Who ever thought you'd be riding bike and shooting?!! That will be the closest thing to being a cowboy I'll ever get.

The last FFR series ride is Monday the 12th of Sept!

Casper Mountain Biathlon Club Upcoming Events

Monday, August 29th

What: Mountain Bike Biathlon Event (cycling and target shooting)

§ When: 6:30 pm

§ Where: Casper Mountain Trails Center http://www.natronacounty-wy.gov/index.aspx?nid=448

§ Deets: Meet at the timing building at the Casper Mountain Trails Center. Entry fee is $10 per person. This charge is to cover the cost of insurance for the event. The race will consist of 2 to 4 shooting stages, using electronic rifles provided by CMBC. More info will be announced later regarding the exact race format. This race is open to the public and appropriate for all levels of biathletes including beginners. There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers. Please bring $10 cash or check to the event.

Tonight will be ride #8 of the 9 race series and will be held on Muddy Mountain in the same place as two weeks ago. Ride will start at 6:45 sharp!! Please allow time for you to be registered so we can achieve this :)

Sept 17 end of year bash!

The end of the year mountain bike adventure is in the works and is set for Sept 17th. We have an exciting and fast course set up with details of the trail below. We are going to have some baked goods and tons of water for everyone. There are going to be TWO racing options for you depending on how epic you want to take it. One 13.2 mile lap for the short course and Two 13.2 mile laps for the long course.

You can do this!!!! This race will be the final challenge of the year and should be easy for you after a great summer of riding. Can't wait to see you on Monday and we can talk about this some more. 9am is the start time for the Sept 17th Bates Bike Bash and Monday's ride will be on Muddy Mountain and will start at 6:45pm.
