Casper Trail Festival: May 12th

THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!!

On May 12th, Fat Fish Racing is hosting a day of outdoor fun with a fundraiser for the Casper Area Mountain Bike Youth Racers (C.A.M.B.Y.R.).  The day kicks off at 8:30am with a 4.25 mile trail run.  The Windy City Striders running club will host this race that take place on the exact same trail as the MTB races.  $10 dollars is all it costs to run and proceed go to support C.A.M.B.Y.R. and the Striders.  When the runners finish, it is time for the first MTB race of the day.  All of the mountain bike races of the day will only cost you $25, which all of the proceeds go to funding the youth mountain bike team.  At 10am the Beginner men/women and the Jr high boys/girls will set off for a 4.25 mile race.  The course includes a fun and spectator friendly prologue loop (which is .75 miles) and then the main loop (which is 3.5 miles).  We expect the winners of this category to finish in about 35 minutes.

At 11am, the Sport categories will start with separate mens/womens and Sr. High School boys/girls categories.  The course will include one prologue loop and three main loops totaling about 11 miles.

At 12:30, the Expert category begins.  Everyone is combined in this category, so all the women will be competing against the men if you choose to race this category.

There is a 'Lunker' category too.  I am excited to see all the folks who want the challenge of the running race and the mountain bike race.  There will only be 3 male and 3 female 'Lunkers' (one male and one female in each category).  After all the results becomes official, we can add up your run time and your bike time to determine a winner in your category.

Registration information will be online soon.  Stay posted and tell your friends!

Saturday morning ride

Another beautiful Saturday morning in Casper!  The last couple months of training feels like it has really translated to more power on the bikes.  The hills are just as fun to race up as they are to speed down.  It feels like our fitness is exactly where it should be and we are so excited to race in just 3 weeks at the Rumble on 18 Road in Fruita, CO.

The Fish were all over the roads today.   Some were riding with the road cycling clubs in town, some were riding around Alcova (a very fun road bike ride), some are riding in the Tetons today, while a few others are doing some actual mountain biking.  The Expert and Sport categories at the Fat Fish Racing Events are going to be much faster this year, I think.  Lots of people are training harder this year than they have in a long time.  I can't wait for the season to start.  Please save the date for the first mountain bike race in Casper this year.  Saturday, May 12th is going to be a fundraiser race for the newly formed Casper Youth MTB Team.  Many more details will be coming your way very soon.  So stay tuned.  I'll post any information on the blog here to help out their team as soon as I hear about it.

enjoy the pics

Welcome GU Energy to Fat Fish Racing

We are so happy to join the GU Energy Team!  The Fish have been using GU for a long time, and now we can proudly tell you how much we love their products.  I personally love anything with caffeine in it and GU has a lot of gels with that on the ingredients list.  You may even see a free sample or two at a race ;)

Happy Riding!

Sunday, March 18, 2012

At 7:15am we took off for what was an amazing Saturday morning group ride.  The weather was perfect for Casper, this time of year and the wind didn't hurt us until the very end.  That was the nice thing about leaving that early.

Matt "the maniac", rode his frankenstein bike with a mix of mountain bike and road bike parts rolling on cyclocross tires.  Besides the few muddy sections in the road where the brakes would clog with gunk, this bike is perfectly suited for the gravel road rides.

Neil "the real deal", Ben "the beast" and Adam "Griz" opted for 29er hardtails.  Next time I will put on some heavier tires on the road bike.  When the roads are dry, I know a road bike would FLY on this route.  Can't wait to do it again.  How about next weekend?

The real deal, Beast and Maniac, pose for a quick picture before we head up Ryan's Hill.  This long hill gets steeper as you get closer to the top!  Its a great climb and was the turnaround point for Ben and Neil who totaled 45 miles for the day.
Matt and Adam dared to venture further on the road to make it all the way to Pathfinder.  Due to all the wet roads, Matts bike was not doing very good.  We turned around just ~4 miles shy of Hwy 220
But not before seeing this huge sink hole in the road.  Wouldn't want to fall into that pothole!

The views and roads are absolutely beautiful on this route.  I hope to share it with all of you in the future.  This would make an excellent gravel road race.  The roads were so nice, that a road bike would be the fastest bike to race this route on.  Thanks Kevin for giving me these 29er slick tires!  I never thought I'd use them, but they are the bomb on gravel.
